Old Business


1. Soldiers Circle Update

a. Dustin Pierce of the US Steel Veteran’s Volunteers has reached out to Rusty Firestone and Kyra Mangold-Ostovich about helping out with Veterans related projects. They will be involved with the installation of the new Veterans markers within the circle.


2. Fundraising

a. July total: $360.00

b. Yearly total: $25, 273.74


3. Student Summer Work Program

a. OVR Program ends on August 13, 2021. The student workers have done a PHENOMENAL job with the daily maintenance of the Cemetery.


4. Discussion of purchase of push mowers

a. Push mowers will be purchased at the start of next season


5. Discussion of purchase of tripod and cemetery-grade pry bar

a. Ellis Michaels will be gathering quotes on costs for equipment that will help to install, maintain, and replace headstones and markers.


6. Cemetery records update

a. Christine has successfully photographed all of Old Section D, and is working on a functional map for the Section.


New Business


1. Election of 2021-2022 Board Officers

a. President – Rusty Firestone

b. Vice-President – Thomas Barefoot

c. Treasurer – Michael Perovich

d. Secretary – Kyra Mangold-Ostovich


2. Eagle Scout Presentation

a. Eagle Scout candidate, Brendan Snyder, requested permission to move forward on the restoration of the Soldiers Monument. The Board was pleased to hear of his interest, and has granted permission to move forward. He will be submitting a formal proposal with mock-ups and supplies estimates within the next few weeks.


3. Discussion of continuing OVR Program in Fall and Spring

a. 4-5 Student workers will be maintaining the grounds during the Fall and Spring months.


4. Discussion on plot/property transfer

a. Several families have come forward to ask about usage of available plots.

b. Vice-President, Thomas Barefoot, will be rolling out a formal policy by September.


5. Establishment of Lowe’s credit account

a. Non-taxable credit account has been opened to help with daily maintenance purchases.


6. New signage

a. Rules and regulations signs have been purchased and will be placed at the entrances.

b. Traffic signage has been purchased and installed.


7. Application for PA Sales Tax Exemption

a. President, Rusty Firestone, is working on application for tax exemption purposes.


Other items discussed by Board Members

  • Gas will be next utility to be restored.

  • Water tank and backflow preventer are being addressed in the caretakers’ home to prevent leaks and inflated utility bills.

  • Potential to add outside water sources for visitor use.

  • Possibility of hosting a Professional Volunteer Day to help with skilled needs.
