As we close on April, we're pleased to make a few announcements on what we've been able to accomplish so far this year!
First, with the help of generous members of our community, local dignitaries, and several local businesses and union groups, we've been able to raise over $18,800.00 in our first annual fundraising drive to help offset operation costs and begin beautification projects!
With the help of the Board Members and volunteers, several vital projects have been started and are underway! Here are just a few!
All utility liens against the property following the bankruptcy have been expunged and forgiven, thanks in part to Senator Jay Costa and the Munhall Sewage Service along with Board members, Rusty Firestone and Rick Brennan. Thank you for your help!
A new gate has been installed at the maintenance entrance, and previously dumped earth has been moved to the outskirts of the property. A HUGE thank you to Jason, Eric, and Andy of SBA Towers is in order for their assistance.
A new fee schedule for proper financial management of future interments and perpetual care has been released to all local funeral homes and monument companies. Thank you to Board member Thomas Barefoot!
The lighting around the Soldiers Monument has been repaired and the flagpole has been restrung to once more honorably fly the American flag. The new flag will be presented on Memorial Day. Board members Tom Imhoff, Rusty Firestone and Corey Potts worked very hard on this! Thank you!
Veterans markers are being cleaned or replaced around the Soldiers Circle, with the help of non-profit organization, Shrouded Veterans. Thank you to Frank Jastrzembski!
A website has been created to share the history and upcoming information about this local treasure. A special thanks goes to local historians, John and Linda Asmonga, for their exhaustive research and incredible knowledge about portions of the Cemetery. Thank you!
Aging equipment has been repaired or replaced as needed. Thank you to Board members Kevin Ondo, Mike Perovich, and Corey Potts for finding and purchasing new equipment to invest in!
Original records are being digitized and new working maps are being created to help with grave identification and location. Thank you to volunteer, Christine Schott, for your diligence and hard work!
An announcement board and welcoming flower bed will soon be placed inside the Main Street entrance. To Board members Rusty Firestone and Vince Rodgers, thank you for creating such a nice space!
Monthly Volunteer Days will held on the last Saturday of every month to help out with larger projects. The first is scheduled for Saturday, May 29, 11 AM - 2 PM!
Larger projects include tree and shrub trimming and removal, fence replacements (in pieces), and raising/resetting paving stones within the podium area of the Soldiers Monument, so please keep an eye out for future fundraisers to help offset costs for these projects!
Thank you to all of our donors! This wouldn't be possible without you!
