Soldiers Circle Update: Eagle Scout Project

We are honored to be working with Brendan Snyder, a 16 year old Steel Valley student, who is in the process of earning his rank of Eagle Scout! He is a member of the Boy Scout Troop 4, based out of the Homestead Park United Methodist Church in Munhall.

Brendan has chosen to restore the Soldiers Memorial as his Eagle Scout project. He plans to remove the pavers inside the gathering area and replace it with new concrete, pressure wash the walls, cannons, and sidewalks, repaint the cannons and cannonballs, replace the mulch, and beautify the surrounding space with new plants. The members of the Clairton Works SERVE group have agreed to graciously volunteer their time to help Brendan complete pouring and spreading the concrete once the pavers are removed.

The requirements of the Eagle Scout project include raising money from various sources of donations. He estimates that the project will cost approximately $3,000 for materials.

Brendan chose this project because, as a Scout, he has been present for the annual Memorial Day services since his childhood. This place also holds importance to him because of his great aunt, Agnes Patterson-Hogg. She, as well as her father, Leo Patterson, were organizers of the annual programs for many years, and he wished to help uphold their legacy.

He plans to be underway in April of 2022, weather permitting, with hopes of completing his plans by Memorial Day.
