Disinterment
A disinterment is often a costly, complicated, and emotional process and is to be considered as an extreme last resort. Burials at Homestead Cemetery are considered final. Requests for disinterment of an individual interred or inurned at the Homestead Cemetery must be submitted in writing by the legal primary next of kin (PNOK) or person authorized to direct disposition (PADD). Disinterment is approved only for those requestors whose facts merit extraordinary circumstances, or if a grave space is to be deepened (if applicable) to add a second interment (second rights fee will apply to these spaces).Deepening for Double Depth
At least 72 hours notice required.
If a grave is already occupied and is requested to be made double-depth, a non-refundable fee of $3,600 will be required to open the space, disinter the existing outer burial container (OBC), deepen the space, return the existing OBC, inter the second OBC, and close the grave. An additional second rights fee will be added. PLEASE NOTE that if the disinterment of the first burial is not able to take place FOR ANY REASON, the interment will be terminated and the grave closed. A secondary grave will need to be purchased for the second interment or separate arrangements made elsewhere. For specific information, please reach out to us directly.
A funeral director MUST be involved and furnish a specific disinterment permit for the first interment, as well as provide an additional OBC for the date if the interment in the event that the existing OBC is damaged or destroyed.
